Japanese snowbell is one of our Top 5 Favorites. It is a deciduous fragrant heavily flowering tree with horizontal branching and a rounded crown. It is well known for its pendulous clusters of bell-shaped, mildly fragrant, 5-petaled, waxy white flowers (each to 3/4 inch diameter) that bloom in May-June. Drooping flower clusters are easily visible because of the upward posture of the foliage. Flowers give way to greenish-brown, olive-shaped drupes that often persist into late autumn. It typically grows to 20-30 feet tall and as wide. Gray bark fissures on older branches to reveal orange inner bark which is an attractive winter benefit. This tree is in the same family as and closely related to Halesia (silverbell).

This is a new Cherry tree introduction, and we are very excited about it. We have been growing this new cherry specimen for 3 years now and are very impressed with its vigorous new growth, and improved resistance to insects and disease. We are one of a few growers in the United States fortunate to be growing this special tree variety. We have listed this excellent tree specimen at an introductory price of only $149.00 This tree is destined to become very popular! It is named after a female trailblazer in the early 1900's who also happened to be the wife of President Howard Taft. She was one of the key people who helped create the Cherry Blossom arboretum along the Potomac river bordering Washington DC and Virginia. This specimen is a outstanding flowering tree specimen, and would look great in a grouping, or in a tree line! It is a deciduous upright tree with a spreading crown, reaching both a height and width of 18' x 20'+ after 25 years of growth. We find that this tree is very hardy with minimal problems with insects and disease. It is most comparable to its female parent, Prunus x yedoensis Yoshino, except for its slightly larger size and noticeably large pink flowers. This tree is a winner, and we are quite impressed with its many positive characteristics. Highly recommended.
