Persian Ironwood is a highly desirable and hard-to-find handsome tree specimen that usually has a single trunk eventually growing 20-30′ tall or a large, multi-stemmed shrub growing 12′-15′ tall. Oval to oblong leaves (to 4″ long) emerge with striking reddish-purple leaf edges in the spring. The leaves mature to a lustrous medium to dark green in summer and change to quite beautiful shades of yellow, orange, and red offering an extended magnificent show of color from September into November.
The interesting exfoliating bark displays green, white or tan patches when mature and provides very good winter interest. USDA zones 5-9
