Magnolia denudata – The Yulan magnolia also known as Lily Tree is a highly prized and exquisite white flowering tree. It truly is an outstanding flowering tree that typically grows 20-30 feet tall with a rounded spreading crown as it matures. Yulan magnolia produces gorgeous and fragrant goblet-shaped white flowers that bloom in the early spring. Flowers bloom before the leaves emerge. Flowers give way to cone-like fruits that mature to a striking red color in late summer, releasing individual red coated seeds at maturity. This tree specimen has been highly-revered in China for its beauty for well over 1,000 years, and women have been known to make a highly prized skin cream from the soft fragrant petals. Privet is a traditional and very effective hedge shrub that provides quick privacy, especially in an urban area where space might be limited. Privet has a generally narrow profile and is perfect next to a driveway or roan frontage. You see it a lot on the Philadelphia Main Line and other traditional areas. It is a low maintenance hedge that although deciduous and losing its leaves in the winter, the branch framework still provides considerable screening throughout the winter months.

Dawn Redwood is a magnificent deciduous tree, and is a relative of the California redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) and giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum), diverging around 150 million years ago. Dawn redwood prefers a wetter environment to grow, and it needs full sun to grow its best when it is a larger tree. We start these as 'understory' trees and they love the high open canopy above them giving the good indirect light. It does best in moist to wet soils, so it can be a good choice for large rain garden locations. As with all trees a good organic planting location would be ideal for these trees.

Red Rocket (Lagerstroemia indica 'Whit VI') is a very special variety of Crape myrtle that produces deep wine red leaves in the spring and summer which then change to dark purplish green, providing a striking contrast to its vibrant Red late summer flowers. Red Rocket is a very colorful and fast growing crape myrtle that can grow 3' - 5' per year. It has a vase shaped multi-stem growth habit and is known for its beautiful red flowers that start appearing in July through September. It is a very popular tree, and is valued for its late summer color.
